Sourcebook for Green and Sustainable Building
The Sourcebook was developed to foster the implementation of environmentally responsible practices in homebuilding. The Sourcebook presents specific and general recommendations for homes that can be considered environmentally friendly. Many of the recommendations may also be relevant to some types of commercial development. The Sourcebook provides the practical information needed to better understand and implement these options.
US EPA GeoBook
Making sound decisions when managing natural resources and encouraging economic development requires many types of information that are not always readily available. Integrating the wide range of information is also difficult or technically unfeasible for people making these day-to-day decisions. The Southeastern Ecological Framework (SEF) GeoBook was developed to provide an easy way to view, overlay and query geographical information. The SEF GeoBook also provides links to more in-depth information on various topics, potential funding sources to protect resources identified, and high-resolution data to visualize on the ground landscapes in your community.
Ecosystem Valuation
This website provides guidance for estimating the dollar value of ecosystem benefits where this is possible, and guidance for developing non-monetary indicators of economic value where dollar measures are impossible or impractical.
EPA' Watershed Approach
A watershed Approach is the most effective framework to address today's water resource challenges. Watersheds supply drinking water, provide recreation and respite, and sustain life. More than $450 billion in food and fiber, manufactured goods, and tourism depends on clean water and healthy watersheds.
To learn more about implementing watershed approaches, try out the Watershed Plan Builder and see EPA's draft Handbook for Developing Watershed Plans to Restore and Protect Our Watersheds. This document follows the watershed planning process and highlights specific technical tools for use in each step in the watershed planning effort. EPA's Watershed Academy and the Watershed Academy's Webcasts also provide training and information on implementing watershed approaches. Also, check out EPA's Watershed Tools Fact Sheet (PDF) (2 pp., 254KB) for a list of hot Web sites and other watershed resources.
