Coastal Erosion and Catastrophic Storms.
A Case Study on Risk Analysis and Risk Management. The interactions between the hydrosphere, atmosphere, lithosphere and people in the study of coastal erosion make this topic an ideal example of an Earth System Science study. When looking at an earth system, the interaction between people and their physical surroundings can become complicated. The issues associated with coastal erosion and land management includes balancing factors such as the environment, government, and individual needs.

Dynamic Habitat Accommodation:
The Policy Framework For Migrating Shorelines
The Conservation Clinic at the University of Florida Levin College of Law has finalized its white paper evaluating Florida (and national) coastal policy as it relates to a long-term need to accommodate dynamic beaches as sea-turtle nesting habitat. The paper examines current policy, current coastal development, armoring permitting, planning, land use, and insurance issues to name just a few topics. The research for this work was supported by a grant from the Sea Turtle Grants Program.
The final white paper and appendix are available via a link on the Conservation Clinic's website here |
